I like to capture moments.

It’s my way of remembering the realness of what goes on around me. Working in New York, there’s a story on every block, sometimes hidden by the new buildings all around you. But old memories – they keep you grounded.

There’s a place right on the river that I escape to. My little piece of paradise, where I sit and reflect on the experiences that made me who I am.

I remember being 15 and dreaming of working in fashion. And now I’m in the fashion capitol of the world, living that dream.

It’s the blood sweat and tears that build you. Because shiny perfect things have no soul. Scratched or bruised, torn or tattered – well worn sneakers are proof that you’ve been too busy living your life to worry about messing up your shoes. That wear and tear is a beautiful celebration of all that you’ve been through.

A life lived to the fullest is a life well lived. Don’t settle for anything less. Live well worn. Wear well worn.

Super excited to share a new project I’ve been working on with Trendseeder! Trendseeder is a site that is part new designer incubator, part e-commerce site – a great way to discover new and lesser-known designers and their original pieces – most of which are exclusive to Trendseeder.

I had the honor of collaborating with Trendseeder and two of their amazing designers on pieces inspired by my personal style. WHATTTT!?

So I got to meet with SPOON designer Randi at her showroom, who showed me some of her newest collection as well as the original top she designed inspired by me and my personal style! I also met with Sahar Dada, another amazing womenswear designer based in Chicago. Both designers have different aesthetics, but their collections/designs both exude an effortless chic with a tough luxe edge.

I’m so grateful to have collaborated with such a cool, ahead-of-the-trend e-commerce site like Trendseeder. It’s such an amazing thing to have original pieces inspired by the style I’ve grown into over the past few years. Here’s a closer look at the pieces. Eeek!!

This top is the “Jinna” top, designed by SPOON.

It’s a basic top by silhouette/structure, but the details make it absolutely one-of-a-kind. The laser cut trim on the bottom gives that much-appreciated peek-a-boo, whether you choose to show your midriff or just the colored denim underneath it. The satin cap sleeves in oxblood are so on-trend, and I’m so excited to show you guys how I styled the top!

I paired the “Jinna” top with liquid gold denim skinnies, a knit beanie and black wedged pumps. It’s a cute casual vibe, but the shirt makes the whole look edgier and that much more original.

Sahar Dada personally designed this shawl blazer for me, and it is such a timeless, classic piece. I’m completely obsessed and I know, just like the Spoon top above, I’ll be able to incorporate this into my everyday wardrobe effortlessly.

The material is 100% silk, and it flows like a cardigan in the front, but the shoulder pads add shape for a more structured look. I paired this blazer with a simple white crop tee, high waisted skinny jersey slacks and cap toe pumps with gold details. This is the perfect everyday shawl blazer, but the sheen adds a flair of class.

Last but certainly not least, Adornia Fine Jewelry designed this absolutely breathtaking necklace – the Rose gold side collar necklace. Let me start off by saying that I’m a sucker for minimalistic jewelry. The thinner the chain, the better lately, but thin doesn’t mean dull. Actually, far from it – the sparkle is unmatched, and I love the luxe look of such a classic piece. I can’t tell you enough how excited I am to have this necklace in my personal collection!

Trendseeder was created by a sister and brother duo who have business and legal backgrounds. Co-founder Avani Patel was also an aspiring designer herself – where she got a taste of the difficulties faced by burgeoning designers. With that fresh in her mind, she decided to create a site where she could put her law degree to use and help advise young and new designers on their business while offering them a chance to dip their toes in the retail pool without the usual overhead costs.

The northeast was hit with a snowstorm yesterday and before it started hailing snow bullets, I stepped outside to run some errands (last minute necessities) wearing my BCBGMaxAzria cape, H&M leather gloves, Frye knee-high boots, Walter Baker blazer and an old pair of uber-comfortable leggings. I am so in love with snow photos. Hope you enjoy!

My style is becoming more and more classic. Classic can quickly and very easily become boring. I haven’t stepped foot in a Forever 21 in MONTHS and probably won’t be going back until the summer hits. I’ve been investing in more quality pieces that can be mixed and matched to achieve an effortless look that still hits trends when they come around every so often.

Layering classic pieces can help prevent that slump of drab blacks and simple silk button downs piled onto what seems like your grandmother’s satin pants. I thought I’d experiment a bit with this whole “layering” concept – which by the way I was a bit afraid to do considering the BULKING UP factor. Yes, we all know that more layers means you-may-look-wider-than-usual-unless-you’re-80-pounds-like-the-man-repeller. Am I alone in this? Maybe, maybe not. Read on.

Ahh, so simple. Satin slacks, mint button down (woo! more color in my wardrobe) and my GORRRR-JUHHHS Celine heels (gracias Bergdorf Goodman!). Anyway, I know what you’re thinking. Oh, I could do that. So what?

I would probably throw this on if I were running late somewhere. Chunk up the neck with some gold chaiiinsss and bring my carry-all bag. How drab. BUT in an effort to stay warm (and mostly because I was bored this day), I went a bit bolder. Top on top = bold, baby. Two tops. One soft, one way hard. The leather makes me sweat (there are faux versions – I opted for the real stuff).

BOOM! Instant play on silhouette and shape. Yummy. Still not there yet, though. I’m missing bling, and it still looks a bit empty.

GOLD saves. Added my Pour la Victoire clutch (it’s actually an iPad case that turned into a clutch because I have no iPad anymore) – along with a vintage gold watch and a statement gold necklace from Karen London Jewelry to jazz up the collar area.

And because it’s cold outside…

Fur, duh. Maroon/oxblood/burgundy – whatever you want to call this color, it doesn’t matter. It works, with anything. Now I’m off to show you guys the finished look!

I know, I know – amazing. #Dead. Obsessed. Edgy. Dark. Lots of leathers and peplum-laden skirts/belts. I was SO inspired by this trend popping up around the fashion world, and never realized until recently how many pieces I had in my closet that could work perfectly.

Mixing navy on navy does seem boring at first thought – sometimes I feel like I’m in Home Depot staring at paint color cards. Yes, you can look drab. Really drab. Possibly even to the point where people think you just wash your clothes too often to the point where colors fade. BUT when you add accessories and a ridiculous pair of gaudy heels, it can work out for the better.

I probably wore at least three different shades of navy blue. The top came scuba-inspired courtesy of H&M, and the Mango skirt has the schweetest peplum to add that non-baby, but booty bump. Delish. Thank you to the creative team at Oscar de la Renta for making this coat. I fell in love at first sight.

I’ve been so inspired by modern minimalism, specifically where architecture meets fashion. Blunt cuts and asymmetrical hemlines create depth, especially when there is monotony in color. I’ve been looking for a black winter coat. Scratch that, I’ve been looking for THAT black winter coat, and thanks to BCBG Max Azria and Black Friday, I found one that I can keep for the rest of my young life.

Investing in a high quality coat will make all the difference in your wardrobe. It’s the first item of clothing people see when you’re walking around freezing your b-lls off, and most of the time it doesn’t matter what you have on underneath.

Psssh! It’s not a secret that we’re loving supermodel Candice Swanepoel’s head to toe look as she was recently spotted being her stylish self in NYC. With a pleated mini skirt, basic fitted tee, sandals and sunglasses, it’s ultimately one of many easy and achievable daytime approaches that’s perfect for the season. Accessories are kept to a bare minimum, but there’s no doubt that you’ll need a little something to house your necessary essentials. Grab a complimentary clutch or small bag and you’re good to go.

Simple, yet still managing to be amazingly chic is the key here. After all, it eliminates the over-thinking and cuts down on the dressing time, and who wouldn’t mind the extra minutes of giving the eyes of onlookers something to appreciate. That something being YOU of course.

The Spice Girls have been making headlines again, with a rumored comeback performance being one of the many buzzed about topics this month. It takes me back to the ‘Wanna Be’ days, lounging around at sleepovers and mini concerts for our parents.

I stopped by the Bollare showroom the other week to find these perfect leopard shorts from FlirtCatalog.com.

So in honor of the girl group we all knew and loved, here’s a tribute post to the Spice Girls. I styled my shorts 5 different ways, evoking the five personalities of the members, all with a G&G twist.

Ginger Spice was the spicy red head with lots of personality. She was covertly sexy (that is, until she attempted to change her alias from ‘ginger’ to ‘sexy’), and she always wore lots of bright colors. I wore a vintage sheer flowy cover-up blouse, a Victoria’s Secret beach bag, and Topshop sandals.

 

Sporty Spice was the tomboy in all of us. There was one of them in every group of friends. I loved that she could wear track pants and sneakers, but still hold her own within the group. This H&M varsity jacket paired with a crop white tee Frankenstein Nike Dunks brought out my inner Sporty Spice.

Scary Spice, the screamer. She was, yes, a bit scary, a tad bit over the top, but she was a big ball full of fun. She wore a lot of leopard print and lace-up combat boots in her day. The big hair and wide open mouth were also trademarks. I wore a vintage lime green vest, a simple top from TwentyTees and Jeffrey Campbell Back Off Boots.

Posh Spice was my favorite of the five. The signature pout, slick hair and edgy style drew me in from Day 1. I don’t even remember if she actually sang, or if lipsyncing was the majority of her role while in the group. Either way, she always looked fabulous (even before she lost all of her Spice Girls weight). I thought I’d channel her sexy side while incorporating a business casual look up top. I’m wearing a Richard Chai vest and vinage striped top, and Aldo pumps.

Baby Spice, the cutesy, romantic blonde we all had a crush on. She had so much charm, a sweet smile and was just all around bubbly and fun. She always seemed like she believed the most in happy endings, so romance played a role in how I styled her look. I’m wearing a Forever 21 pale pink top, Forever 21 necklace and Miu Miu heels.
